August at Disney World & Orlando Theme Parks: The Ultimate Heat Survival Guide for Families

August in Orlando means one thing: heat! With temperatures regularly hitting the high 80s to 90s°F and humidity that makes it feel even hotter, visiting Disney World, EPCOT, Universal and Animal Kingdom with little ones takes some serious planning. But don't let the Florida summer put you off. With the right strategy, August can be absolutely magical. Here's my complete survival guide to staying cool, comfortable and having the best family theme park trip possible. 🌡️ Beat the Heat: Your August Orlando Strategy

Rope Drop, Rest Mid-Day by the Pool, Return in the Evening

This is the golden rule of August theme park visits and honestly the best thing you can do for your family. Hit the parks at Rope Drop when it's cooler, the queues might be a bit heavier but there will be rides your just walk on! (I'll cover this off in another BLOG, head back to your resort for a pool break around midday when the heat is at its worst, then return from 5pm onwards when temperatures drop and the magic really begins. Evening fireworks on a cooler night? Absolutely worth it OR Safari feeding time at Animal Kingdom.

What to Pack (and What to Leave Behind!)

Before we get into the list, a really important tip: pack smart! Security at all the Orlando parks will stop you if you're carrying tins, hard glass cases or umbrellas, so keep your bag light and sensible to avoid any delays getting through the gates.

• Lightweight, breathable clothing (moisture-wicking fabrics are your best friend)
• A portable fan because a battery-powered misting fan is genuinely a game-changer
• Wet cloths or cooling towels in a zip-lock bag
• A refillable water bottle (more on free water stations below!)
• A light rain poncho because afternoon thunderstorms are almost guaranteed in August, even on the sunniest of mornings
• Baby wipes or antibacterial wipes and honestly these are an absolute must. Ride handles, lap bars and surfaces get incredibly sticky and hot in the August heat so having wipes to hand is a lifesaver for cleaning up sticky situations and keeping little hands fresh throughout the day
• Download the what3words app before you travel! Every 3 metre square on the planet has its own unique 3-word address and it is genuinely brilliant for pinpointing exact meeting spots, water stations or stroller parking areas in huge parks. If you get separated or need to direct someone to your exact location, what3words makes it so much easier than trying to describe where you are in a massive theme park!

Two pairs of shoes is an absolute must for your trip but keep the spare pair back at the hotel! Orlando's humidity means wet shoes simply won't dry overnight so having a fresh pair waiting for you at the resort is a total game-changer. Just don't pack them in your park bag!

💧 Free Water and Refill Stations: Don't Pay for Water!

Staying hydrated is absolutely non-negotiable in August heat. The good news is that free water is everywhere if you know where to look and I'm going to tell you exactly where!

Disney Parks

• Starbucks and Joffrey's Coffee locations throughout all Disney parks will give you a free cup of water, just ask at the counter
• Water bottle refill stations are dotted around Disney property too 

Magic Kingdom

• Water filling stations near the toilets on the path to Tron: Lightcycle / Run
• Inside Pinocchio Village Haus
• Two water refill stations inside Cosmic Ray's Starlight Café

Hollywood Studios

• Starbucks inside the park usually has free water stations and you can always ask for a cup of ice water at the counter
• Head over to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and you'll find two water refill stations outside the toilets. They are really easy to spot so you genuinely can't miss them!

EPCOT

• Epcot International Gateway, as your coming into Epcot or exiting by the toilets 
• Connections Café has water machines right alongside the Freestyle Coca-Cola machines
• While you're there, grab a refreshing and completely free Coca-Cola tasting from around the world at Club Cool next door. It's brilliant fun and a great way to cool down!
• Toilets by Port of Entry has a water station - Right next to where the old Starbucks use to be, and now the ice cream location

Animal Kingdom

• Starbucks and Joffrey's have water available throughout the park
• Cast members at smaller locations are always happy to help with water requests
• Worth noting that water bottle refill stations are more limited here so I'd recommend topping up before you arrive

❄️ Air-Conditioned Havens: Where to Cool Down

Most theme parks are really well set up with air-conditioned spaces and knowing where they are can make a huge difference to your day.

Magic Kingdom

• Cosmic Ray's Starlight Café is one of the best air-con spots in the whole park and perfect for a proper sit-down break
• Skipper Canteen is another excellent air-conditioned restaurant with a really fun atmosphere
• Baby Care Center located next to Casey's Corner and The Crystal Palace restaurant, this is an absolute hidden gem for families with young children. It's completely complimentary, fully air-conditioned and beautifully themed in the style of Alice in Wonderland. Inside you'll find rocking chairs, a dedicated feeding area, high chairs and tables, a kitchenette with microwave, sink and bottle warmer, plus a changing area. There is also a small shop stocked with emergency supplies including nappies, wipes, formula, baby food, juice and medicine. These items are chargeable but it's such a reassurance knowing they're there if you need them!

Hollywood Studios

• Most of the major attractions at Hollywood Studios are air conditioned so this is a great park to lean into the indoor experiences during the hottest part of the day
• Take time to see the Shows, there are a few here that are fully Air Conditioned and a great escape! Little Mermaid, Villians, Frozen sing along.
• Beauty & the Beast, Indiana Jones are outside with over head coverage, although they do also have large overhead fans, the area is just not air conditioned. 
• One Man's Dream is an indoor area to cool down, you can't take drinks in here but you can pop in and walk through the gallery museum, also there are sometimes showings of new Disney films.
• Animation Courtyard opened May 26th 2026, perfect to stop by Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live, air conditioned and floor space to sit for a bit.

EPCOT

• Connections Café is air-conditioned and a great rest stop
• Many of the World Showcase pavilion interiors offer lovely cool respite as you walk around the lagoon
• Baby Care Center located inside the Odyssey Pavilion, situated near the walkway between the Mexico Pavilion and Test Track, this is a brilliant spot to know about if you're visiting EPCOT with little ones. It has all the same fantastic facilities as the Magic Kingdom Baby Care Center including rocking chairs, feeding area, high chairs, kitchenette with microwave, sink and bottle warmer, changing area and a small shop with emergency supplies such as nappies, wipes, formula, baby food, juice and medicine. Again these items are chargeable but absolutely worth knowing they're there just in case!

Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure

• Most major attractions and their queues are air-conditioned so lean into the indoor rides during the hottest part of the day
• Keep an eye out for the large cool air machines dotted around the parks. They are an absolute lifesaver on a scorching August afternoon
• Starbucks is on hand throughout both parks to grab a cold drink, free water, and take a breather
• Freestyle machines literally everywhere for Ice, Water, and TOP TIP! shhhh maybe shouldn't tell you this one well there's 2 top tips.......Universal has 3 freestyle machine that never, well hardly ever runs out of ice and it's located in the Kidzone pizza company, also TIP 2 - there is a Coco Cola store/shop/popup where you can pop in it's located right next to Men in Black (this does run out of ice) but it's got blowing out lovely air con and there is a seating area around the window ledge for a quick breather!.

EPIC Universe 🌟 NEW for 2025

EPIC Universe as you know is brand new (well a year old) and absolutely stunning but there is one thing to be aware of in August, the trees are still young which means the lands have very little natural shade right now and it can get very, very hot. Here's my honest advice having been there myself with JP a few times now.

• Plan for a full day from start to finish rather than the split day approach you might use at other parks
• Buy a refillable drink cup and use it all day long. You pay a recharge price each time and get access to cold still and fizzy drinks throughout the park. In this park specifically it is 100% worth every penny
• JP and I share one cup between us for the day and it works perfectly!
• Seek out the indoor attractions and air-conditioned spaces whenever you need a break from the heat
• The refill drink stations are your best friend here so find them early and use them often
• Your see a lot of people sitting around the gift shops, on floors, up against walls, because this park just doesn't have enough cool areas to accommodate everyone.

💦 Splash Zones and Water Rides: Just Embrace Getting Wet!

Sometimes the best way to cool down is to just go for it and get soaked. Here's where to find the best spots, also pack spare kids towels, socks, clothing, sun lotion, sun hats, and non slip shoes, also maybe pack something for you too, no reason you can't join in.

Magic Kingdom

• There's a brilliant splash zone Fantasyland, CASEY JR, SPLASH N SOAK STATION near Dumbo the Flying Elephant that the kids absolutely love. It's a great way to cool off while they play
• Tiana's Bayou Adventure - you get very wet on this ride in the front rows
• Pirates of the Caribbean, the drop may get you wet, or the canon balls, but likelihood is low.

EPCOT

• Multiple splash zones around the park make for a brilliant refresh between attractions
• Moana: Way of Water is a stunning attraction that also doubles up as a very welcome cool-down experience!
• Frozen, has is a water ride, it does have a drop and sometimes we have got a wet bottom! but not drenched.
• Three Caballeros, water ride, not wet at all, very calm.

Animal Kingdom

• Animal Kingdom is a little more sparse when it comes to splash zones but it does have some great water rides to help you cool off
• There are no dedicated splash zones or water bottle refill stations on the main paths from what I've seen so it's worth planning ahead
• Kali River Rapids, great water ride, not too wet until you get to the end and if the jets are working, guests will be able to drench you.
• Avatar Flight of Passage & Na'vi River Journey, very calm ride, you won't get wet at all. 

👶 Stroller Tips for August

As a stroller rental company, I obviously have to share a few extra tips for getting around with a Stroller /Pushchair in the August heat!

• Attach a portable fan to your stroller because this is genuinely one of our most popular add-ons and for very good reason - if you have one of those new expensive huge fans, attach them to the stroller securely, remember we are in a park and we all want to be nice humans, but sometimes things go missing from strollers! lock it down!!!
• Add a rain cover (Parkside Strollers hire these out with every stroller, one to protect your little one and two to protect our strollers- these are expensive pieces of kit) because afternoon storms can arrive incredibly fast and a good rain cover keeps your little one dry and comfortable in seconds
• Park your stroller in the shade wherever possible and use a light muslin or cover to stop the seat getting scorching hot in the sun
• Stroller parking areas get very busy in August so always note your row and use a distinctive flag, bright coloured ribbons or balloon so you can find it easily when you get off a ride or attraction, cast members do move strollers.
• Added security put a Air Tag in the stroller!

🌙 Evening Magic: Why 5pm Onwards is the Best Time to Visit

Once the sun starts to dip, the parks genuinely transform. Crowds thin out, temperatures drop and the evening entertainment begins. August evenings at Disney World are spectacular from EPCOT's fireworks to Magic Kingdom's Happily Ever After and experiencing them after a refreshing pool break makes them even more special. Trust me on this one!
